BOMBER Tips
Truest Crankbait Made
By Coby Carden
Bomber's Model "A" crankbait is the truest, best running crankbait that I have ever fished. There is no other crankbait on the market that you can depend on time after time for having a consistent true running action out of the box. I have depended on the Bomber Model "A" series crankbait in every Bassmaster tournament that I have ever fished.
I won the Alabama Bassmaster Open on Lake Martin in November of 2002, and if it were not for a Fire Tiger 6A Model "A" I would not have claimed that victory. I cannot tell you how much I RELY on this series of crankbait's, whether I am fishing a Bassmaster Tour Event or knocking around fishing with my father or girlfriend. I have had 7 Top 10 finishes on the Bassmaster Trail, and in each event I without a doubt relied and fished one or more Model "A's" during the days of competition.
My favorite structure to fish with these baits would be stumps, lay down trees, boat docks, rock/riprap banks and underwater grass no matter the depth or water color. I like fishing the 5A Bomber in less than 5 feet of water, the 6A and 7A in less than 10 feet of water and the 8A in less than 12 feet of water. I feel that on any given day that I can catch a limit of bass whether it be smallmouth, largemouth, or spotted bass on these crankbaits, from the clearest of water to the muddiest water, from no current to all the current you can hold your boat in. There is no exception to this rule.
Without a doubt these crankbaits are my confidence and go-to baits no matter what body of water I am fishing from the St. Lawrence River in New York to the Alabama River. I always have at least one rod on the deck of my Skeeter with a Bomber Model "A" tied on. My favorite time of the year and what seems to be the most productive for larger bass would be late fall into the winter months where I typically target rock or large laydown trees, and my favorite color to fish would be Fire Tiger.
The best day I have ever had on a crankbait period, and one of the best days of fishing I have ever had, came on a Model 7A crankbait on Lake Seminole while fishing a milfoil weed line. I boated three fish over 5 lbs. and had several other bass over 3 lbs. This shows you how versatile a Bomber Model "A" crankbait can be. The only thing missing is you tying one on and giving it a shot. I fish the Model "A's" on 7 foot G Loomis Medium-Heavy Crankbait rods with Shimano Calcutta 100's and Silver Thread Fluorocarbon or Silver Thread Excalibur line ranging from 10 lb. to 15 lb. I allow the cover to typically dictate the line size. I'm the type that would rather go to a deeper diving crankbait than lower the lb. test line I am fishing.
